How does radio work? And a sound studio? How is the musical programming chosen? And the interviews? Answers to all these questions and more, and exciting hands-on activities are all programmed into this great camp! To be sure the experience is interesting for everyone, 10-13 year old and 14-17 year old will have their own groups and the camps will be held in alternating sessions. Also, the CRC gang (max of 10 registrations per session!) will finish their week by participating in a live CKUT broadcast! New this year : Check out our 2-week long intensive radio camps for teens!

New Specialized 2-week long camps for teens
Radio CKUT's totally bilingual Summer Radio Camp is now in it's third year and unveiling 2 new and exciting options for campers. We are offering two new 2-week long specialized camps for teenagers aged 14-17.
In the first week teens will get the full radio experience using CKUT's recording equipment and studios, and learning all of the basic radio production skills complete with two live-on-air programmes hosted by the campers.
In addition, the campers will spend the second week focusing on one of two specializations: Music and Sound Art; or Journalism and Documentary. Read on below to learn more about these exciting expanded camps!
1-Week Camps for 10-13 year olds
For 10-13 year olds we will be offering 3 1-week long camps covering all the basics of radio production. Over the week they will DJ, conduct interviews, act as on-air engineers, produce pieces in our sound studio and much more. 10-13 year olds will also get the chance to host and produce their own live-on-air programmes on Radio CKUT!
- CKUT will host 3 one week sessions and 2 two-week sessions alternating between groups of 10 to 13 year olds and 14 to 17 year olds.

- Session 1: 10-13 year olds Campin' Out Monday Edition
- Radio Campers on If You Got Ears - on this editon of If You Got Ears, the radio campers performed a singing excercise. Each camper chose a song that they knew all of the words to and sang a syllable with every breath.

- Session 2: 14-17 year olds
- Campin' Out Monday Edition
- Radio Campers on If You Got Ears - on this editon of If You Got Ears, the campers created an orchestra with each camper using their voice to make a different sound.

- Radio Campers on If You Got Ears - on this editon of If You Got Ears, our studio mics were hooked up to a synthesizer. We asked the campers to speak while they took turns adjusting the knobs on the synthesizer to distort their voices through the mics.

- Radio Campers on Where's the Beat - on this editon of Where's the Beat, campers were asked to find an object around the station that made noise - they grabbed metal cans, CDs, wood blocks, squeaky markers on paper, etc and improvised.
- Radio Campers on If You Got Ears - on this editon of If You Got Ears, each camper was given a piece of paper and asked to use it to make sound. They ripped, crumpled, tore slowly, scribbled, etc.

- Radio Campers on Where's the Beat - on this editon of Where's the Beat, campers were asked to find an object around the station that made noise - they grabbed an accordian, metal bars, a teacup and pen, a book, the springs on the mic stands, etc and improvised.
- Radio Campers on If You Got Ears - on this editon of If You Got Ears, the campers interviewed members of the band the Wicked Awesomes from Edmonton.

- Drop off is at the McGill Conservatory between 8:30am and 9am and pick up is at the McGill Conservatory between 4pm and 4:30pm.

Pick-up and drop off is at the McGill Conservatory at 555 Sherbrooke West.
All workshops will be held at CKUT Radio at 3647 University. Campers will be escorted to and from CKUT by a camp counsellor every morning and afternoon. Some nearby fieldtrips will take place throughout the week. More information on field trips will be provided upon registration.
