Know Your Radio Rights
What are the rights and responsibilities of the broadcasters? How have definitions of right and wrong changed overtime? What do terms like libel, slander, and privacy mean to the community radio broadcaster?
Speakers:
Mark Raboy, McGill
Marc Raboy is the Beaverbrook Chair in Ethics, Media and Communications and is a Professor within the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill. He has been a visiting professor in the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication at Stockholm University, senior research associate in the Programme on Comparative Media Law and Policy at the University of Oxford, and is a member of the international council of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). He has been a consultant to various international organizations including the World Bank, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and the European Broadcasting Union and served as expert advisor to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage for its two-year study of Canadian broadcasting. He is also a founding member of an international advocacy campaign: Communication Rights in the Information Society.
Khalid M'Seffar, CKUT
Khalid M'Seffar works as a lawyer in criminal and intellectual property law. He has been involved in community broadcasting for nearly twenty years and is presently host of Funky Revolutions heard on CKUT.
