Labour Radio / Aug. 18, 5-6pm / Marikana massacre annaversary in South Africa
Tune in to Labour Radio the third Thursday of every month from 5-6pm on CKUT! News on labour struggles from around the world.
This week marks the 4th anniversary of the Marikana massacre in South Africa. A total of 44 people were killed, 34 of them by police, when miners of the Lonmin mine demanded a living wage. Today on Labour Radio we will be commemorating this event and bringing you an update on the struggle of informal workers to stay on the streets of Johannesburg. We will also be hearing from a number of people on social assistance in Quebec describe their experiences surviving the system. After headlines we will speak with Stéphane Lacroix from the Teamsters Canada who represents workers at Manoir Sainte Julie who are currently on strike.
