9:54pm INTRO Here is a piece from CJSR's programme Youth Menace. This excerpt is made up from the voices of children and youth engrained in the justice and child welfare system. You will find on this piece the focus on a wide variety of issues including homelessness (hungry, crimilization and so many other issues). Much (not all) of the background music was written and performed by Edmonton street youth including those interviewed. One part I find very chilling is the scream of a child being restrained by Child Welfare in the background of an interview. The girl being interviewed only reaction was asking if we wanted the door to be shut. As if these restraints are a normal part of life in care.

HOUR 11: PART 1 (mp3) & PART 2 (mp3)PRIMER QUESTION: Drugs and homelessness - A sensational mix that promotes repression over help to addicts. Medias are often using drugs and addiction as a general stereotype of homeless people, displaying shocking images and alarming the public. What is the impact of this sensationalism on homeless people and how do homeless networks view and work around these images? In the next hour we'll gather journalists and social workers to help us see the reality of drugs in the streets.
